A new Horizon
VASCULAR AND ENDOVASCULAR SURGERY.
Peripheral Vascular and Endovascular surgery is one of the newest , yet most sophisticated and ever evolving sub-speciality of Surgery. A dedicated Vascular surgeon works on the blood vessels of the human body which includes arteries, veins and lymphatics.
It is probably one surgical domain which requires ambidexterity at its best using skillsof age old open surgical techniques and using interventional skills of endoluminal (inside the blood vessel ) procedures. The spectrum ranges from removing clots or blockages to repiring blood vessels and creating leg and limb bypasses in a determined fight to save amputations.

Varicose veins and venous ulcers are a morbid quality of life issueand with the advent of laser and radiofrequency these can be resolved by a trained vascular surgeon with no cuts or incisions as a walk in walk out procedure.
With ever evolving technology acute blood clots in veins (DVT) and arteries can now be melted (thrombolysis)or sucked out (Thrombosuction)with speedy recovery to work.
Dialysis- the life line for failed kidney patients requires arteriovenous fistula or grafts or tunnelled catheters which is ideally manged by a trained vascular surgeon. He is also the caretaker of the access and armed with fistula salvage procedures like fistuloplasty (repairing damaged fistula) and central venoplasty.
Ever evolving technologies make aortic aneurysm and stenosis (main blood vessel dilatation or blockage) to be dealt by minimally invasive procedures(EVAR, TEVAR) , thereby decreasing mortality and morbidity immensely.
