WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF LEG ATTACK?
An AV fistula is an artificial surgical connection between an artery and a vein. It makes a vein fat, thick and strong to sustain dialysis needle.
Worldwide success rate (that is a fistula through which uneventful dialysis is initiated) is 60-70%, but with ultrasound screening we can get better results.
WHAT IS DANGER OF A LEG ATTACK?
Untreated patients may lose their affected limb. Combined with stress, diabetes , ill fitting footwear these patients are almost destined to suffer a major cardiac or cerebral attack in the near future.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
A holistic care starting from patient awareness of early signs of vascular insufficiency and educating them about proper foot care and protocol based preventive vascular care is required.
HOW CAN A LEG ATTACK BE TREATED?
Enthusiastic revascularisation of limb ranging from peripheral arterial angioplasties, peripheral stenting, leg bypasses– to open up choked vessels . We also offer catheter directed thrombolysis of clots and clot thrombo-suction in cases of acute leg attack. Wound care, vaccum dressings, artificial skin (dermal ) substitutes readily available at our hospital and supervised physiotherapy helps in rapid rehabilitation of the treated patients.
